Every rider makes mistakes.
A missed transition.
A pole down.
A movement that didn’t go to plan.
A ride that just didn’t feel right.
But often the hardest part isn’t the mistake itself.
It’s what happens afterwards.
You replay it over and over.
You question your ability.
You compare yourself to other riders.
You start wondering if you’re actually improving at all.
Instead of focusing on progress, your mind stays stuck on what went wrong.
Over time, this chips away at confidence.
You start riding more cautiously.
Overthinking decisions.
Forgetting how far you’ve already come.
And when confidence disappears, it affects everything — from lessons to competitions to the simple enjoyment of riding.

Replay mistakes long after the ride is over
Care deeply about improving and doing right by their horse
Sometimes struggle with self-criticism or overthinking
Want to build real confidence, not just temporary motivation
Are willing to reflect, learn, and grow from each ride
Believe progress comes from awareness, not perfection
Want tools that help them stay grounded when things don’t go to plan
You’re not interested in developing the mental side of riding
You’re happy continuing the cycle of replaying mistakes without ever gaining perspective
You’d rather brush difficult rides aside than learn from them
You're already feel confident 100% of the time
You never compare yourself to other riders
You don't get frustrated or criticise yourself when you make a mistake
For riders who care deeply about their sport and their horse, learning how to manage mindset can be just as important as improving technique.
This journal is designed to support that process — one ride at a time.
Created by a Rider Who Understands the Mental Side of the Sport
Hi, I'm Zena and like many riders, I’ve experienced the mental ups and downs that come with riding.
Over the years I’ve competed in a range of disciplines — including dressage, showjumping, eventing, showing, and riding club. And like many amateur riders balancing work and horses, I often found myself overthinking mistakes, being overly self-critical, and wondering if I was ever going to “get there”.
Then life forced me to step back.
After being diagnosed with colon cancer, I began working more intentionally on my mindset — learning how our thoughts shape confidence, resilience, and the way we respond to setbacks.
As I explored these ideas, I realised something important:
Many of the same mindset principles that help people navigate difficult moments in life can also transform the way riders approach their sport.
Instead of spiralling after mistakes.
Instead of comparing ourselves to others.
Instead of feeling like progress never comes fast enough.
We can learn how to pause, reflect, and rebuild confidence one ride at a time.
That realisation became the starting point for The Equestrian Edit.
A place for thoughtful tools designed to help riders strengthen their mindset, enjoy the process of learning, and build confidence in the saddle.

A Perspective Reset for Riders Who Overthink

The Overthinking Rider Perspective Reset™ is a short guide designed to help you stop the spiral, separate facts from the story your mind creates, and regain perspective.
Inside you'll learn a simple mindset shift that helps riders stop turning one moment into a verdict about their ability.
